Description
Course Description:
This course is designed by the Health and Safety Authority and accredits applicants with a FETAC Level 5 certificate in First Aid. Those who complete this course will acquire both practical and theoretical skills in first aid, designed to assist in the diagnosis of illnesses, treatment of injuries and appropriate care in the event of an accident.

Participants who complete this course will have knowledge of:
- The position of a first aider and its responsibilities
- Legislation relating to first aid provision in the working environment
- Methods of providing treatment in all cases to mimise the potential of further injury until medical services arrive
- Providing treatment in the workplace for injuries which do not require the assistance of medical services
- Co-ordinating first aid in the workplace
Course Content:
This course will train participants in a variety of essential first aid areas including:
- First Aid in the workplace
- Patient assessment & Respiratory emergencies
- Cardiac First Response
- Impacts of wounds and bleeding
- Understanding the levels of consciousness
- Musculoskeletal injuries, burns and scalds, chemicals, poison, electric shock
Upon completion of this course, participants will receive a FETAC Level 5 Certificate which is valid for 2 years. All first aid persons in the workplace must be qualified with a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in accordance with the HSA Guidelines. This course runs over a 3 day period, one day per week for 3 weeks or alternatively, over 8 evenings for 3 hours per evening.
