What is a Defibrillator?
A defibrillator or automated external defibrillators (AED's) is a portable electronic device which provides a shock to the heart where there is a life threatening arrthymia present or where someone experiences a cardiac arrest. The shock helps the heart to re-establish normal contraction rhythms. AED's are lightweight portable units which are battery operated which are often found in locations with large numbers of people.
Courses on using AED's
Irish heart foundation AED training courses are available from Siren Training. The courses teach the basic techniques on how to effectively use an AED when someone suffers a cardiac arrest.
